How to find purpose and meaning in life?

People without a purpose are like a ship without a rudder. Many people, strangely enough, never stop to reflect and consider where they are going. Few things are as important to your life as understanding your purpose. Why are you alive? Why do you exist? Here you can explore this topic in an orderly, logical fashion, but the answers should have an emotional impact that will touch your heart.

Perhaps you remember the conversation Alice had with the Cheshire Cat in the book, “Alice in Wonderland”.

Alice asked: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice: I don’t much care where.
Cat: Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.
Alice: …so long as I get somewhere.
Cat: Oh, you’re sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.

But walking long enough and getting “somewhere” is not very appealing to most of us. We want to have a purpose, a life of significance. Even having a long life with good health is not a great solution if the heart is unhealthy or unhappy.

“But length of days with an evil heart is only length of misery and already she begins to know it. All get what they want; they do not always like it.”

C.S. Lewis, The Magician’s Nephew

A life based on purpose is a life fulfilled. It contributes to joy and peace. We know who we are and where we want to go. We are confident in ourselves. Each day we wake up knowing that what we do today moves toward that purpose. Find your purpose and put a rudder on your ship. Experience life as it is intended. There is more to life!
