Through the years God has been a continuous source of guidance, provision and protection. For example, when I was in high school one of the big decisions was where to go to college. I was choosing between three science and engineering schools: MIT, Cal Tech, and Harvey Mudd. Each one had its own attractions. It was a tough decision and I asked God for guidance. At the time I was in a speech competition sponsored by the local Optimists Club and won second place, for which I received a prize of $50. Within days of receiving the prize a letter arrived from Harvey Mudd requiring a $50 room deposit to attend there. I felt that God was clearly leading me to choose Harvey Mudd.
Early in our marriage, while still attending college, money was very tight. One year we didn’t have enough cash to put gas in the car to drive to our parents’ homes to celebrate Christmas. Shortly before Christmas we received a card from my grandparents which contained a $10 bill. That was the first time they had ever given us money for Christmas. That is a small example of God’s provision but I can honestly say that He has always provided for our every need.
Several years ago I was driving home one lovely afternoon along a narrow country road when my car suddenly died. I got out to push the car off the road. While in the process I saw a car approaching over a rise in the road. Not having time to get into the car, I quickly got as close to the car as possible, pulling the open front door close against my body. Unfortunately the driver of the oncoming car did not see me. He hit the car door that was pressed up against me smashing it into the front of the car. The car was “totalled” by the insurance company. I escaped with minor injuries. The bumper grazed my knees, bruising them and my lower legs, and the tires ran over my feet. Had the oncoming car been just inches further to the right I would have probably been killed.
These three examples show how God has guided, provided for, and protected me throughout my life. There are many more. What a faithful and loving God He is. –Tom

Born of the Spirit, the Ultimate Secret
We don’t think much about the spiritual world in our post-modern age. Perhaps there are parts of the world where people worship spirits, but that does not concern us here in Europe. We believe in science. Actually, we have been deceived into thinking there is a contradiction between science and …
