We don’t think much about the spiritual world in our post-modern age. Perhaps there are parts of the world where people worship spirits, but that does not concern us here in Europe. We believe in science. Actually, we have been deceived into thinking there is a contradiction between science and belief in any type of reality that can not be put in a test tube. If that is what you believe, then read about the fallacy of trusting science to define reality.
We know our bodies last only about 70 years on average. That isn’t very long. The Bible makes it clear that this physical limitation can be overcome. True significance outlasts the life of our physical body. Consider what Jesus said about human life and a spiritual birth.
Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’”
Jesus Christ in the Gospel of John 3:5-7
The Apostle Paul develops this same truth further writing, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10) Notice the high value that God places upon disciples of Jesus, “we are God’s masterpiece”. Then consider what gives us that value, being created new. The creation process is accomplished “in Christ Jesus”. The purpose is to accomplish certain good things that God has already planned. But this all may not apply to you yet. It was written to people who had experienced that rebirth.
Where can we explore more about this spiritual rebirth? How can we find reliable information about this concept? The Bible. What is so special about the Bible? It is the collection of what God revealed to men and women over history. The Bible can help to answer our questions about the spiritual side of life, it provides training for our spirit, it corrects wrong thinking. The Bible is a big book. Actually, it is a library of 66 ancient scrolls, written in 3 different languages, over a period of 1400 years, by many authors. What they wrote was inspired by God for our benefit.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Would you like to be adequate and equipped? That sounds like a life of meaning and purpose! That is what God offers.
