You know how wonderful Jesus is, but your friend believes that they evolved from apes. They were taught this in primary school and many very smart scientists believe anything else is superstition. What do you do?
#1 Get things straight in your own head. In western society the narrative against the Bible is so strong that Christians often have a mixed worldview that includes contradictions, or at least big doubts about elements of their faith that contradict core beliefs of the society around them. Remember that the New Testament speaks of Adam as a real person in 7 verses from multiple authors. Luke traces Jesus’ lineage back to Adam. Paul writes, “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” (1 Cor. 15:22). While Christians may disagree whether there were 7 literal 24-hour days of creation or not, Adam is a non-negotiable as the first man (1 Cor 15:45).
#2 Become familiar with the weaknesses of macro-evolution as a theory of origins. We have several wonderful posts on LifeFound.me that can help. /matter /science /darwin
#3 Pray for your friend. God uses many things to draw people to himself, but it is always a supernatural result, not just by logic or reason. Sometimes God uses personal tragedy. Other times it is nagging questions. /Luiza grew up under communism but knew deep down that she didn’t evolve from apes. She didn’t trust the popular narrative, although she had never heard of Jesus. It could be the personal experience of a follower of Jesus. “Our Stories” is a whole section full of these encounters. Share these either with a link or a QR code from your phone to theirs. Learn how to add your own story and other ways to /use LifeFound.me.
#4 Ask questions. Jesus asked lots of questions! The /journey page provides questions to help determine where someone is in their thinking, and others that help them to re-evaluate that view of life. Bookmark or save this to your phone for easy access.
#5 Undermine their worldview. The /real section provides various posts that point out the flaws in prevalent worldviews and defense mechanisms against the knowledge of God. Do they avoid talking about God? Share /taboo. Do they avoid the topic of /death? Are they afraid of losing their /freedom to live as they please? Where do they place their confidence now? Is it /money? Do they count on Darwinism? Share /darwin. The /journey page can guide you to the most relevant articles that will help them to question, dismantle, and discard their faulty worldview, making room to consider Christ.
#6 Answer their questions. Some of the questions about God, Jesus, the Bible, Islam, and other spiritual topics may be answered well by posts in the /spirit section. Others may need research. Don’t be intimidated by thinking you might not know the answers to their questions. It is OK, even better, to not have all the answers. Just say, “Great question! Let me research that and get back to you.” If you get stuck, we would be glad to help. Just /contact us.
#7 Celebrate each step of their spiritual /journey. Consider, what is the next step in your own?
